"Jim Lee is practically the sole survivor of the top-level purge. Now he's cleaning up the bloodbath. I wonder why he stays at DC. He has to be sitting on a pile of FU money, from his Image days, his sale of Wildstorm to DC, and the many years he's been employed as a creative lead. "

The most probable answer to this question is that he likes what he does and sees no reason to leave. DC has always treated him well during his time there and he has a lot of input into the creative side of things. Where else is he going to get to help steer the ship for a company full of iconic characters?

DC determines what is cannon to the mythology. And DC exercises that power at the drop of a hat (or sales). Yet fans judge the movies and shows on how faithful they are to the comics, not the other way around. Perhaps it was inevitable that the studio would have to get rid of DC and secure their control over the characters.

This is a fundamental misunderstanding of what drives business.  If you really think DC comics determines anything within the Warner Brothers (really AT&T) sphere, you're sadly mistaken.  It's actually the opposite.  AT&T doesn't understand why this little publishing unit is still wasting money on paper when they have a digital apparatus.  It's that simple.  No conspiracy. Just dollars and cents.

Every so often, when I was still full time at Marvel, some retailers would start making noises about wanting "returns". Wanting, in other words, the best of both worlds.

My response was to say "Sure! Give them returns, just like the newsstand. And also like the newsstand, we tell them how many copies they can order." Not a popular idea.

Returns basically neuter the whole reason the DSM came into being. But, then, most people seem to have forgotten why the DSM came into being.

On the Turner Networks, they are running ads for DC FANDOME which is scheduled air this coming Saturday, August 22nd on Adult Swim.

I wonder if the elephant in the room will be discussed?

No, but they'll have its corpse trussed up in the rafters, and every once in a while it'll swing partly into the frame, out of focus and poorly lit.

"Same with Black Canary I and Black Canary II."

The way around that is to establish that there were three Black Canaries.

Dinah Drake Lance (JSA)
Laurel Drake Lance (later JSA)
Dinah Laurel Lance (JLA)

Very easy. Not really different from changing Sharon Carter from being Peggy Carter's younger sister to being her niece.

Dinah (JLA) is the only one left alive, of course.
