Yikes.

I'm guessing that AT&T/Warner Bros. still has an interest in producing TV shows and films (and video games) with DC characters.

Just not comics.

So what happens? "DC Comics" gets sold to some other business while WB is still able to do the films/TV/games, etc.? They can do that, right? I'm sure someone else here knows the relevant legal jargon better than me.

I can't imagine DC comics totally vanishing. It would precipitate the end of comics in general, I suspect, because Disney would probably start wondering if it's still worth it to keep the comics-publishing sector of Marvel Entertainment afloat.

And eventually, bye-bye Comixology, etc.

Right?

It's called out-sourcing.

I don't follow modern comics much nowadays. But it makes me sad whenever people lose their job.Good luck to any DC staffer's that lost their positions.Entertainment industry in general is in rough shape.

No. If Marvel and DC were to disappear, which I don’t think would happen, it’d be bad for comic book shops, but comics as a medium would keep on trucking. I think it is more likely that the books get licensed out to other publishers.

Marvel still seem fairly committed to Marvel Unlimited - They are even
adding comics pre-1960’s .

Now I’m not sure who’s responsible - Marvel or Amazon (Comixology),
but one of those companies is still invested in digitising hard to find
comics.

Comixology is doing similar with early DC as well

If they wanted to just scale back DC comics, they wouldn't fire the EIC. They would need him to figure out which books to cut. Say goodbye to DC publishing.

It's weird to think that action figures and comic books (one could argue cartoons and video games) are being targeted at adults. Kids are kind of left behind in this stuff but they're more interested in stuff like YouTube. I've seen that a lot of the toys that currently have the market excited are properties from when I was a kid (G.I. Joe and Masters of the Universe). Have creative people just run out of original ideas?

And the world continues to evolve into something I’m not particularly fond of.

I do feel bad for anyone who loses their job, however as a fan, it's difficult for me to feel much of anything given the current state of the comic books nowadays.

I do confess that I would miss the action figures and reprints (trade paperbacks and omnibuses), but that is the extent of it.

Rumor has it 3 to 6 Months.Disney lost 4 Billion last Quarter.
I believe there's little to no money in printing comic books.
