What a contrasting visual aesthetic between the two Phoenix.

You seemed to have toned-down Jean's "bird" in this incarnation.

Also, looking at Dave's Phoenix-effect in the post above --- I now wonder if the Trans Am firebird/screaming-chicken was an inspiration.

War of the Dark Phoenixes? I feel a swell of pity for the landscape. That's New York State as the landscape.

I cannot misdoubt this would escape the attention of New York's super beings. As in X-Men 134, Reed, Dr. Strange, and the Avengers would likely register this surge of DOUBLE Dark Phoenix power. Possibly Norrin Radd as well. Whether they can do anything or not is another bucket of apples altogether. But I anticipate a good time for us readers.

To reuse my favorite ironic phrase... hilarity ensues. Your talent never fails to please, Mr. Byrne!

It may this time, if you’re hoping for another guest star bonanza!

".....the two Phoenix"

--

Well, until today, I've never had to ponder what the proper plural of 'Phoenix' should be!

A Roman senator walks into a bar.

“Give me a martinus!”

“Do you mean a martini?”

“If I want two I’ll ask for them!”

I'm not looking for guest stars at all - but I'm sure I'll be very pleased either way you go.

A group of Roman senators are sitting in a bar and one goes up to the bartender. Holds his fingers up in a peace sign and says, "Give me five beers." (This works better as a visual, y'know...)

As Eric says, guest stars are not really needed as we just had that with the Sentinels. My personal preference here is that the X-men solve this problem themselves. While I do have a personal preference for how that happens, I trust the story will be fine(and besides it's too late to change it anyway) however John chooses. Just enjoying the story and art as it unfolds at this point.

This project has seen no scarcity of gorgeous pages but the post-blackout batch has been particularly fetching. And the twist of the double Phoenices (my stab at the plural) is lovely.

Back in the days of snail mail it would often bewilder me how many readers did not grasp that simple fact. So many letters chiding me for some perceived wrong turn in my tale, and suggesting a way out. Then, the next month, congratulating me for taking their advice—all this missing the rather important fact that what they had just read had been finished months earlier!

Seeing two Phoenices go at it will be quite the visual feast. Can't wait!

Phoenices is the correct plural. A bit more accurate to the
Greek spelling would be Phoenikes, but typically in English
transliteration that k would become a c. And even more
accurate it would be Phoinikes.

Tune in next week for more "Pedantry Corner."
