I've started threads on this series in the past, but was surprised to see that no one has started one re: this most current season.  A SPOILER warning has been inserted in the thread title to signal that that is what we'll be discussing.  So...thoughts on S5?  I'm just four eps in, so I'm going to hold my observations until I'm caught up.  But please feel free to discuss!

I never commented because I never watched the show until we got Showtime a few months ago and binged the series.

I like that both Chuck and Ax are both grey areas. I'd argue that of the two, Chuck is the more evil one.

No spoilers for season 5, but I thought it was fairly weak compared to past seasons. And would still be even if it wasn't shortened. Some interesting things do happen, but season 4 was better.

Not a fan of Axe on Ayahuasca Brian?

I felt S5 was weak myself but this show has continued to surprise me I really
want more of Brian Connerty that one punch wasn't enough. I will leave the
spoiler talk till Matt catches up.

No, not a fan of that, John.

Plus the situation with Taylor in season 4 was more interesting than what was going on with them in season 5.

Finished the seven episodes offered in this fifth season by Showtime.  I have some thoughts...

- First off, I would have rather Showtime held the 5th season until such a time as it could be completed. While I totally understand the effects of COVID on the Hollywood production side (I'm still currently unemployed because of it), I would rather it have been held until the full season was completed.

- That said, taking this first seven episodes as a bunch, I have to sadly say...eh.  Not the best season so far.  I know that BILLIONS ramps up in the last episodes, so I cut them some slack, but it's not as engaging as previous seasons.

- Taylor.  While I understand that what they went through in Season 4 was monumental, their shift in tone and acceptance of those that fucked them over is hard for me to accept. They are my favorite character in the series and to see them so weak is hard to accept. I hope this is a direction whose end was abbreviated due to the pandemic.  We'll see.

- Sorry. Can't see what Julianna Margulies' character sees in Chuck.  That relationship went from zero to sixty in a single episode.  Felt so contrary to the careful consideration that the showrunners have given to their series.

So, yeah.  I have a ton of problems with a series I have held up as one of the best on television.  I hope they can bring it back from the brink when they return.

I wanted to wait till you caught up Matt for more details

There's too many enjoyable characters not in Season 5

Rebecca Cantu, Jock Jeffcoat, Grigor Andolov Black Jack Foley , Lara, Bruno

The Prince guy doesn't do anything for me but they have established Axe
needs an enemy so we get Prince who doesn't seem like much of a threat after
4 seasons of Axe crushing guys

And I'm w you Taylor has become my favorite character and they just working
within Axe Cap and w Prince but saving Axe Cap after the whole office is
tripping on viglantrix seemed like a season 2 kinda story where Taylor is still
proving themselves and we have Taylor and Victor both basically in the same
situation which diminishes Taylor's unique abilities

Julianna Marquis adds nothing nor do I need more of Chuck's sex life explored
beyond what they established and lets be honest at his age its getting sad and

I did like Wags little journey to have a do over child a friend of mine discovered
his daughter was working as a stripper he said the same thing He Failed the
Chris Rock Test

The thing with Julianna Marguilles' character doesn't make sense to me, either.

I was glad to see her and Frank Grillo on the show, but am not exactly thrilled with either's character.
