Finished the seven episodes offered in this fifth season by Showtime. I have some thoughts...

- First off, I would have rather Showtime held the 5th season until such a time as it could be completed. While I totally understand the effects of COVID on the Hollywood production side (I'm still currently unemployed because of it), I would rather it have been held until the full season was completed.
- That said, taking this first seven episodes as a bunch, I have to sadly say...eh. Not the best season so far. I know that BILLIONS ramps up in the last episodes, so I cut them some slack, but it's not as engaging as previous seasons.
- Taylor. While I understand that what they went through in Season 4 was monumental, their shift in tone and acceptance of those that fucked them over is hard for me to accept. They are my favorite character in the series and to see them so weak is hard to accept. I hope this is a direction whose end was abbreviated due to the pandemic. We'll see.
- Sorry. Can't see what Julianna Margulies' character sees in Chuck. That relationship went from zero to sixty in a single episode. Felt so contrary to the careful consideration that the showrunners have given to their series.
So, yeah. I have a ton of problems with a series I have held up as one of the best on television. I hope they can bring it back from the brink when they return.
