PS, that doesn't mean it was a good Joker movie. Nicholson, for my money, didn't have to work very hard to earn his paycheck.

These movies were extremely important to my comics fandom, drawing me to DC characters for the first time in my young life. Even so, I have absolutely no affection or nostalgia for them. Looking back, I'm not even sure I liked them as films then, just liked what they represented.

(Trivia: I was living overseas when the second one came out and the Spanish subtitles refer to Bruce Wayne as "Bruno Vega." I'm sure they've recognized that as an important trademark by now, though.)

It was "Bruno Diaz" around these parts, and still is for a lot of people. I think it was the mexican dub for the 60s show that started that and it never really got out of the collective consciousness here in Latin America.

The Mexican comics embraced it as well (also "Ricardo Tapia" for Dick Grayson) and it went on for generations, pretty sure the 90s animated series also dubbed them as such (I'm not entirely sure because I've always watched them in the original audio for the last two decades).

However, the Nolan movies and the DCU have brought the original names back around these parts I think.

Clark Kent, Peter Parker and the such were not affected, just Batman.

Why would they change the civilian names? Is this common?

Burton always viewed the Batman world as being about split personalities. Bruce and Batman were two different people inhabiting the same body,

That was another flaw in his take on the material.

At least Schumacher and Lee and Janet Batchler got this right in Batman Forever with the line:

"I am Bruce Wayne and Batman".

This is how Ive felt Bruce Wayne is. He is always Bruce Wayne, and
he fights crime as Batman.

But is this the way he is portrayed in the comics or movies? How long
has it been since Batman is the real person, Bruce Wayne is the mask
has been the portrayal?

My best guess is that Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson are somehow hard to pronounce for a spanish speaker, especially kids.

Clark Kent or Peter Parker not that much. Lois Lane however became "Luisa" (common latin name) Lane, I'm guessing for the same reasons ("Lois" sounds weird in spanish).

I feel this way about numerous super heroes. Superman in particular. I always found it a bit off that Clark Kent was considered the secret identity rather than Superman.

This might be because, unlike Peter Parker and Bruce Wayne, Clark doesn't conceal his face when he is 'on duty' but does wear a pair of glasses to alter his appearance when he isn't.

Perhaps people think of the glasses as a 'disguise' and therefore think of Clark Kent as the secret identity.

I've always thought of Superman and Batman this way:

Both Clark and Superman are his real identities: Neither is really a secret identity, because he's a Kansas farmboy who just happens to be an alien. He acts different and wears glasses as Clark to keep people from realizing he's Superman, but neither is really a false persona. He's still homself when he has on the glasses.

Batman, on the other hand? When his parents were murdered in Crime Alley, Bruce Wayne `died' too, and Batman was born. Its Bruce Wayne, not Batman, who is the false persona. He's really himself when he has the mask on or is around people who know he is Batman so he doesn't have to put on an act.

Keaton is not the only guy returning for the role:

Wow.

Possibly three different Batmans under contract. Funny how DC-esque all this is. Everything old eventually comes back.

As an aside, I'm really perplexed about the "Snyderverse" comeback. Does anyone really enjoy those films?
