What blows my mind is how sexy Jean is as Dark Phoenix and how she appropriately wasn't sexy at all when she had the mind of a child.

I pointed out a simple mathematical fact: in those days there were 22 pages of story in each issue, and 22 working days in an average month. If you could produce a page a day, you could do a monthly book. If not, seek work elsewhere.
......
I've often wondered how many people who consider going into the business, actually test drive this and spend one or two months practicing the discipline of putting out a monthly comic by completing, at least, one page a day.
I've been a professional illustrator in the past, and people who know my love for comics would often ask me ...why don't you draw a comic book? My answer... because drawing that many pages in 30 days is ALOT of work.
I have much admiration for those who do it well and consistently.

Many wannabe artists arrive with their best day as their benchmark. “I once did six pages in one day, so that’s my speed!”Of course, those six pages took place on Hoth during a global blizzard....

JB - Is Phoenix still wearing that doesn't really exist red/black color?
Something about the way you drew her here and the "Final Transfiguration" statement almost makes me think the color has gone to full black.
Chillingly awesome page either way.
Thanks for doing this project.

I never understood what "life incarnate" means. Every living human incarnates life. Not expecting JB to clear up what Mr. Claremont meant, either!

Genuinely scary... characters we've come to care a lot about being menaced by sheer crazy! :^ [ Ulp!
Maybe Mr. C got it a bit mixed up with light incarnate?

If we look at the origin of Phoenix in 101, we definitely come away with a big WTF moment. Jean, bombarded by cosmic rays (tac tac tac) emerges from the shuttle unscathed, with her powers boosted and apparently having undergone some kind of psychotic break. She then settles back in with the group and her powers keep growing and growing, until all but Chris seem aware that the X-Men are becoming fifth wheels in their own book (a phrase that was used around the Office quite a bit at the time). To let Chris write her as he clearly wants, but without diminishing Scott and the others, Steven Grant suggest we make her a villain. Off we go to do that, with Chris, at first, quite content with the idea that Mastermind’s corruption of Jean unleashes the “dark” that is really Phoenix. But when we are forced to change our ending, because Phoenix must suffer the CONSEQUENCES of her actions, Chris becomes resentful that Doom and Magneto and (especially) Galactus do not have to be similarly treated. So he begins “rebuilding” Phoenix, so that it/she is all sweetness and light that was corrupted by the human spirit of Jean. Exactly the opposite of what was portrayed in 137.

Well I've no idea of what's next. I fear that you are going to break our hearts JB but you wouldn't do that would you?
