I thought Secret Wars II wrote the Beyonder out of the Marvel use.

At the time, I said "Good riddance." I fell into the trap and had to wonder if the Beyonder were more powerful than Zeus or Odin. Or Jesus Christ. Or God.

I couldn't get it out of my mind. Then I had to picture the Supreme Being sitting in the back of a limo, grinding and drinking his own vegetable juice. Ridiculous barely covered it.

Then again... this is the entity that gave Matt Murdock his sight again... and took it back because Daredevil threatened to sue. WTF??? If he had any sort of compassion, he'd have removed Murdock's compulsion to give back the gift of sight, not the sight itself.

They should have stuck with Secret Wars being a toy catalogue.

I scolded editor Ralph Macchio for bringing the Beyonder back just to trash the character. If he really wanted "revenge" on Shooter, he should have ordered up the Greatest Beyonder Story Ever Told.

SECRET WARS is a bad comic but from what I remember it barely affected the Marvel titles, aside from the Spider-Man ones, and that was very temporary, until the existence of the symbiote led us to Venom. I can't think of any other lasting effects.

SECRET WARS II didn't have any lasting effects either, I think, but it was a cross-over-into-every-title mini-series, which its predecessor really wasn't. That was very bad. Even worse than CRISIS, where some of the cross-overs were just "red skies!"

Secret Wars was fun for me as ten year old kid because it all felt like a big deal. But I also realized at the time that Jim Shooter (who I liked writing the Avengers) blew the characterization of not only the X-Men but the Wasp as well. That was shocking because I figured he should know how to write those characters properly.

So did he.

Fantastic Four # 319 was actually called "Secret Wars 3", and was the conclusion of a tale begun in # 313 that effectively wrote The Beyonder out of the Marvel Universe altogether.

I thought Secret Wars II wrote the Beyonder out of the Marvel use.

I had to remind myself how Secret Wars II ended, and in doing so, reminded myself that the Beyonder's human form is a copy of Steve Rogers with Michael Jackson's Jheri curls. Now I have to work on forgetting that again.

Anyway FF #319 revealed that the Beyonder was just the sentient energy used to create Cosmic Cubes that had leaked out when Molecule Man had his accident. The Shaper of Worlds and Kubik, the evolved versions of the Skrull and Earth Cosmic Cubes, combined the Beyonder and Molecule Man into a new Cosmic Cube. But it wasn't even two years when that Cosmic Cube showed up in an FF annual evolving into an entity calling herself Kosmos (why do cubes need gender anyway?), and the threat of the Beyonder separating himself from Kosmos had been around since then.

My understanding is that the current take on the Beyonder is that he is a child in the Beyonders race (someone was watching "The Squire of Gothos"?), which might not necessarily conflict with his being sentient Cosmic Cube energy.

There was also his appearance in Bendis' Illuminati series where he was a mutant Inhuman, but that got thankfully retconned away.

Aside from the fact Shooter ordered that everyone come back changed
in some way?

And Iron Man came back with his armor modified.

And Hulk came back with a broken leg.

And the X-Men came back with Colossus not loving Kitty anymore.

The only change to the Avengers I can think of is She-Hulk didnt come
back with them. Two birds, one stone, I guess.
