But that's still not inherently funny.  Why this particular lead, in this particular show?

I agree with Jason - I'm not seeing the humor. It's my impression that women
get a disproportionate amount of grief from the internet critics, and her gender
variance seems to have amplified the situation and made her a target. VARIETY
is reporting that the injury had less to do with her departure and there was
more on-set tension that caused her departure. Since Rose has been open
about mental health issues, I assume that has been a factor as well.

 QUOTE:
I wouldn't laugh about this. Even overlooking all the online hate, she also suffered a near crippling back injury as a result of taking on this role. They may be downplaying the effect this has had on her, (maybe because it would unfairly impact her chance at future roles) but speaking as someone who's had a back injury- it's no joke! And you don't just walk it off. I would bet good money that the lingering effects of it have been a major factor in this decision.

I wouldn't doubt it. Dick York had to leave Bewitched because of chronic back pain. Ricardo Montalban also apparently suffered horribly from back pain for a good chunk of his career.

Get woke, go broke.  This show has had TERRIBLE reviews and ratings and my decision, despite liking Ruby Rose, to completely skip this show after the god awful previews seems like a good choice.

In fairness, it has nothing to do with being woke. It's a dull and tedious show in its own right.

If it hadn't been for Rose, I wouldn't have bothered with the five episodes I managed to sit through.

But Ruby Rose is not a writer or producer of a show that many deem worthless or suspect... she's just an actress who needed and took a job.  For whatever reasons, she chose to step away, and yet this show will still continue without her.

So again, we should be laughing at her because...?

I don't even know what this means in this context. The show is doing fine, and Ruby Rose leaving has nothing to do with the performance of the show.

Well, no. While the show had some mixed reviews, they were generally positive. RT is what it is, but with a 79% rating, it's difficult to argue that the reviews were TERRIBLE.

As far as ratings go, with ARROW and SUPERNATURAL ending, it'll be the second highest rated continuing show on the CW after THE FLASH.

But sure, let's blame wokeness for an actress having difficulty with the strenuous schedule of filming an action TV show. It's as nonsensical as the phrase itself.

She was feeling uncomfortable by the way she was being treated by some behind the scenes, found the fighting scenes strenuous, and got injured. NONE of that I find funny.

As soon as he was announced, people complained that she wasn't Jewish, which didn't help. They're reportedly interested in finding another LGBTQ actress to replace her. Stephanie Beatriz from BROOKLYN 99 has expressed interest, and so has Jade Tailor, who was on THE MAGICIANS.

I still like my idea of having Rachael Skarsten play Kate, but only if they kill Alice off. It would be too confusing, and the whole Alice situation is one reason I am fed up with the show.

And the show has been renewed.

As much as I like Skarsten, she should not play Kate. Alice being bad
and Kate wanting time save her sister is a good thread that should
keep going. I just hope itís sporadic next season and they have a
different big bad.

Finishing the season, I enjoyed the show for the most part and thought
the second half was much better than the first. I liked Ruby Rose in the
role. Iím sad to see her go but I can understand why.

As for the complaint that the show is woke, itís about a lesbian. And
deals with things that people like her would have to, like being closeted
or bigoted against. Iím not sure what people would want to make the
show not woke. I didnít once watch this thinking man they sure keep
forcing gay stuff into the show.

The ONLY show I ever thought forced gay stuff into the show was ELLEN, and I mean her old comedy series. When she came out in real life, she said the show would not be about her being gay....and that's exactly what it was about.

This I don't get. Surely it's enough that the character is gay?

Agreeing with Petter. A lesbian character doesn't need a lesbian actress, any more than a gay, Jewish, Bostonian, etc. character needs that kind of actor. That's why it's called ACTING.

To pick at a sore point, we've even seen characters who are Asian, black, even female played by white men. The performances have naught to do with the actor's race, religion, etc., even if that casting is offensive to us.

I hope that they get a woman to play Batwoman. After that... whatever.
