Good page -like the transition from Jahf's to Jean's eye.

And also good to see the normally guarded emotions of Scott leak through a bit. Childlike she may be, and awkward as it is for Scott, that is still the woman he loves after all...

And lastly, good to see Jean still being heroic despite her "condition".

Now THAT'S a set up page! And as you cheated to us a couple pages back, we'll see the I.G.

The telepathic link is still there. Maybe Phoenix wasn't as destroyed from Jean as they all hoped. Humans recover from the most amazing injuries and damage, and usually it's by doctors supplementing the body's ability to heal. One wonders how a mutant body and mind would do that. I LOVE it!

TANGENT: Curt Swan also said he hated the Legion of Super-Heroes, even though he was so damned good on them, because there were so many of them. Might one ask you, Mr. Byrne, what is your dislike for the Legion?

I’ve told the tale many times. I was a child when the Legion was introduced, and as a child I was often subjected to the same kind of bullying and trickery the three Legionnaires unleashed on Superboy.

That story hit me hard in some tender places in my psyche. I’ve just never been able to forgive them for it.

(After all these decades, it’s become something of a schtick.)

The timing is so cruel for that black word-ballon to leak into the panel.

My goodness...

Things are really heating up now! Tomorrow's page
is going to be quite the cliffhanger!

I'll confess that tomorrow's cliffhanger contains one of my biggest "mistakes" artistically. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but then I had to draw the results again and again and again and again over the next several issues!

You'll see!

Well done conveying that overwhelming fear in Jahf's eyes in the last panel. Tomorrow cannot come soon enough!  Unless you're our heroes. Or Earth.

In the short time I've gotten to know you (solely via your forum posts), I immediate assumed it was because it was Jim Shooter's vehicle into the industry.  I like the truth better.

I know nothing.

Based on JB's last message, I've cracked the code - the X-Men's newest foe is a Phoenix-powered Jack of Hearts!

The people, the story, the action, the art - everything about this issue is
fantastic. But the clear highlight for me is this, from Gladiator:

"Ah, but the poet tells us 'the best laid plans of q'ee and taa.'"

This is such a great touch! It reminds me of how Star Trek would remind us the
characters were in the future - they would name two real historical events or
people, and the third would be a someone or someplace we had never heard
of.
