Yes, I think we can say race relations have improved at least a little!

Vintage Cartoon

This makes “Coal Black” seem almost respectful!

Unfortunately, that kind of evil continues to find expression in many ways.

It’s a catchy tune, but what astonishes me is that it, and the cartoon itself, seems to have no reason to exist other than to be wildly, even cruelly racist.

So many of the cartoons, movies, comics etc of this vintage are casually racist, but they are not deliberately mean. They seem to be mostly born of ignorance, as if the creators genuinely do not understand how hurtful these things are.

It hardly seems credible to say that here.

Yep, that's it. That's the reason why I had to stop.

I actually suspected that was the cartoon even before I opened the link.

Believe it or not, but it was actually just some years ago I learned that food like watermelons could be seen as offensive in a certain context.

"From the studios that brought you TROLLS WORLD TOUR, DESPICABLE ME, & MINIONS, we bring you....."

I remember reading about this cartoon about 20 years ago.

We've come a long way....  I guess
