I hope I'm not duplicating anything by starting this thread. I didn't see anything else about this topic posted in threads from the last year.

Anyway, about six months ago I managed to get my hands on the Doomsday +1 comic books published by Charlton when a nearby thrift store got hold of a giant comic book collection. They also had copies of the Doomsday Squad reprints, so I was able to read the "lost" story that ran in Charlton Bullseye.

I'm going to be doing a blog post about Doomsday + 1 because this year is the 45th anniversary (!) of the series, and for obvious reasons I sort of have the apocalypse on my mind right now.

I was wondering if John Byrne had any specific memories of Doomday + 1 that he would like to share here, or that he had posted elsewhere on this site that I overlooked.

Oh yes... on my blog I'm planning to at least briefly touch on Doomsday.1 from IDW, since it was a really good miniseries.

Thems were some old time comic books! If they’d been published in the Fifties, they’d not have stood out much from the crowd.

And they were fun. Joe Gill, the writer, gave me permission to change anything I wanted to, if I felt it improved the story. A real learning experience—like pretty much everything I did at Charlton.

Thanks for sharing your memories, John Byrne.  I've read a number of artists who first got started professionally at Charlton describe it as a great learning experience.

My apologies, I forgot to ask this before. I remembered when I started re-reading the comics last night.

Doomsday + 1 issue #s 4-6 have the Art credited to "Byrne Robotics" and on issue #5 there's a credit for "technical assistance from Patterson-75."  I'm curious what exactly those credits mean.

(Right now I can sort of  imagine John Byrne in his studio rubbing his forehead and muttering "Why is this guy bothering me with questions about work I did 45 years ago?!?")

Thanks again for your time. I appreciate it.

I used Byrne Robotics when a friend helped me ink backgrounds. (She’d lost her job so I gave her a temp job.)

The “Patterson” credit is best ignored.

Thank you, Steve!

I attempted to find past discussion about Doomsday + 1 but I didn't see anything from the last year, and for some reason I keep getting errors when I search for "Doomsday" on the board. It gives me the message "Microsoft VBScript compilation error '800a0400'" and so on. So I appreciate you posting a link to this old discussion.

Again, my apologies for any duplication of old information.

I think DOOMSDAY.1 is a much better series - I think it would be more
interesting to give it equal time.

Re-read DOOMSDAY.1 the other day and really wish we'd gotten DOOMSDAY.2.

Tim, I do not want to go into too much detail about Doomsday.1, just enough so that people who are unfamiliar with it will get the gist of it, and hopefully some of them will become interested and will want to purchase the trade paperback.

Doomsday.1 is a fantastic series!
Character development is outstanding, including "minor" characters!

According to Mike's Amazing World of Comics, the first issue of Doomsday +1 went on sale 45 years ago next week, on April 8, 1975.
