He knew when to fold 'em.

Love him, hate him or are indifferent to him, he was a big part of most of our pop music lives. RIP.

Sorry to hear.

One of those extremely few voices that could get me to crossover for a couple of minutes.

Damn. Always liked him. LADY ( written by Lionel Ritchie) was always
a favorite. Hard to believe he first made it big in a rock band that even
Jimi Hendrix likes.

The Gambler (loved the tv movies he did, too)
Lady
Ruby
Islands In The Stream (With Dolly Parton)
Love Will Turn You Around

All some of my favorite classics.

I ate at his short lived Roasters restaurant chain, and was surprised it bombed. The food was good.

I had only learned just about a month ago that Lionel Richie wrote "Lady" which blew my mind that I didn't know that before, plus in the back of my mind I was getting confused about who had sang which song between them since their ballads have a very similar structure - now I know why!

As I went down that rabbit hole, I discovered that Rogers and Richie were lifelong friends after "Lady", and I started watching numerous videos of them carrying on together though the years. Richie gave Rogers credit for jump-starting his solo career.

The 2012 version of "Lady" that he sang as a country remake with Lionel Richie is even better than the original, made even more poignant with Roger's aged voice , and with Lionel's "thank you" at the end - LINK

In fact, I was playing the above song on Spotify just yesterday. I'm not a country fan, but I'm really bummed by this.

RIP

Hard to stress how little penetration country music had in the UK when I was growing up, yet Kenny Rogers was a name I knew. Not even sure when or how he entered my consciousness -- must have been by some kind of osmosis, because all the songs I associate with him, I don't think I knew until adulthood.

Had a great voice and cut a handful of songs for the ages.
