My local Stop & Shop closes at midnight on Thursdays, so I figured if I went after the post-work rush, I'd be able to avoid the crowds.  Got there at 9:15 and it was like the day before Thanksgiving and the day before Super Bowl Sunday rolled into one, only with more people wearing painter's respirators.  The shelves are really starting to empty out; the soup aisle looked as empty as a Soviet-era Gum.

Today at work, they cleared out the training department as someone there was showing severe symptoms.  They're in a different building from where I am in marketing, but obviously there's tons of crossover.

As of yesterday, the company has in place an optional WFH policy which I'm still debating if I'm going to take advantage of.

The thing that always occurs to me when listening to a Trump press conference is that I'm only surprised when he strings together a coherent response. I am, therefore, rarely surprised.

The only thing our local stores seem short of is hand sanitizer, and the like.  There's plenty of food, and even plenty of toilet paper.

My wife and stepson went to the grocery store Wednesday night after she picked him up from work, and they were almost out of bottled water except some on an end cap display. (My stepson drinks mostly juice, bottled water and Gatorade.) Some guy was buying 4 or 5 big packages of toilet paper.

Apparently if you can't find hand sanitizer, mixing aloe and vinegar works as a substitute. Not that I'd actually try that myself....

Update: just went to the local grocer, was as busy as the day before Thanksgiving.  Shelves were being cleared off, toilet paper gone.  This happened in the 24 hours since I was there yesterday.

Brian Miller, correction:

For the most part, the press conference was fine, as actual intelligent adults got a chance to speak at the microphone.  (Personally, I think Dr. Anthony Fauci is the undisputed MVP of this entire crisis so far.)

Unfortunately, it was Man-Baby Trump and Brown-Noser Pence who were the fucking jokes...

It may have been asked, but... WHY TOILET PAPER??? Milk, cereal, canned goods, sure - that makes sense. Cleaning items, yeah.

But I've had the flu, and I didn't need all that much more toilet paper than I usually have. Maybe an extra four pack, that should be plenty.

Why in hell are people stocking up so big time on TP? Did Trump suggest it? 'Cause if there's one thing he knows...

"I didn't do it!"

[cuts mic to journalist]

Big on the 2nd amendment. Not so much the 1st.

There's a rumor that the restaurant chain my stepson works for might shut down its restaurants until this is over, but will still pay employees. Bad news for him and all their servers, because he's a server and they make a lot more than minimum wage thanks to tips. Which is what servers will likely get if it happens. Minimum wage will not cover his phone bill, car payment and insurance for a month, let along his other bills. And he can't trade his car in for a cheaper one for a couple more months. He's just lucky he doesn't have to pay rent at the moment, but this will delay his plans to move later this year if the shutdown happens.

Went to the grocery to pick up a few items for the weekend this
afternoon. They were completely out of eggs, flour, sugar and
cornmeal.
