The Oscar nominations were announced today.

JOKER leads the way with 11 nominations, with THE IRISHMAN and ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD not far behind.

I don't think JOKER's gonna get much though, except for probably Best Actor for Phoenix and possibly Best Original Score. Still, pretty impressive. Surely the first comic-book based film in history to lead the nominations at the Oscars.

The votes are gonna be pretty divided among quality films like Scorsese's and Tarantino's (and apparently Mendes' 1917 is pretty good too) so I'm keeping my hopes up for a surprise win for PARASITE which is in my opinion, and by far, the year's best film.

UNCUT GEMS and Adam Sandler (can't believe I'm saying this) were majorly snubbed, it's an incredible film IMHO and it deserved recognition.

Who are you guys rooting for?

Apart from John Williams for Original Score, and Avengers: Endgame for visual effects...

Sad to say, I've seen almost none of the films on the list, especially the Animated category.

Of the ‘Best Picture’ nominees....only Ford vs. Ferrari excites me.  I loved it as it was custom made for me.  So I’m hoping it takes the checked flag...so to speak.

I'm hoping Knives Out wins best original screenplay.

And that The Irishman doesn't win for Best Achievement
in Visual Effects!

Hollywood loves "hip" stories / movies about itself so my sense is that it would be a significant upset for anything other than ONCE UPON A TIME to win the orig. screenplay category.

I'm hoping Knives Out wins best original screenplay.

Finally saw KNIVES OUT.

I expected to love it as I am a huge Agatha Christie fan (my mom's influence) but I found it fun but ultimately underwhelming. The cast was great, though.

I'm betting QT will win in that category easily.

No worries for THE IRISHMAN winning best visual effects Peter. Richard Edlund is still on the panel, so ILM stand no chance (although I see John Knoll is now also on the panel, so I wonder if this will provide balance (to the Force))
