Pretty measured essay......tho it does perpetuate the myth that DC offered me a "million dollars" to do Superman. No such luck. Did it for my page rate and whatever royalties might acrue (which were very nice, but nowhere near a million dollars).* ------------------ *The books were still 75¢ in those days! On the 900,000 sales of MAN OF STEEL 1, royalties were paid after the first 100,000. Five percent divided between the writer, penciler and inker. 4% for me, in other words. So... a bit over $40,000 for that first issue. Orders dropped, of course, after the first issue, so the book finally settled in at around 200,000. Still at 75¢. About what I was getting on FF, in other words. Not chicken feed, by any means, but not the fantasy numbers some people love to conjure.
