Just saw where Buck Henry has passed. I remember him fondly from SNL and also as Liz Lemon’s dad.

Provocative, mordant, and very funny. Goodbye, Henry Zuckerman!

I loved GET SMART, and he was consistently the last host of each season for
much of the beginning of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. Like Steve Martin, he felt
like a member of the cast.

First encountered Buck Henry on his SNL appearances. I later learned about his career as a writer of some top TV shows and films. Rest in peace.

Goodbye, Henry Zuckerman!

••

Apparently he took the nickname "Buck" from his grandfather. Imagine if he had chosen Buck Zuckerman as his stage name! Sounds like the lead in a sci-fi sitcom he might have written.

I watched HEAVEN CAN WAIT (1978) in tribute to Buck. It's
one of my favorites - a well balanced comedy that pulls off
it's fantastic elements quite well.

Buck Henry co-directed this with Warren Beatty, which is
such a weird combo to think about considering each ones
body of work. I feel like these two directing a film is a
story in and of itsef!

He also has a small part in the film, which he pulls off
with perfection. I think his writing and acting ability
served him well when contribut8ng to directing, especially
with such a killer cast. Charles Grodin basically steals
every scene he is in with just a look - he had flawless
comic timing.
