Looking forward to more "little experiments..."•• Promising nothing, Paul! This imaginary X-MEN run was totally spontaneous, after all, and I don't feel any other itches at the back of my brain. I know there are quite a few of my previous projects many of you would like to see treated in this manner (and I would REALLY appreciate it if there were no wish lists forthcoming!), but for me there's nothing that quite occupies the same position as my truncated X-MEN run.

However many issues you end up with, JB, will far exceed anyone's prediction. When you started scratching this itch I was excited to see you doing sequential pages again and being that the subject matter was your X-Men was the icing on the cake. This project of yours has been a comic book highlight for me and many others over the last two years.

I'll echo Eric's post (above)---at whatever point you decide to stop, you've already given the world more than could have possibly been hoped for. This continuation of the best of what comics has to offer is priceless (literally!).
It's X-men canon as far as I'm concerned, and when it ends I'll considered the arc of the New X-men series closed---all that "other stuff" is just bunch of "What If's". This is what happened.
Thank you again, Mr. Byrne. Your gift is undiminished. Pure gold. Words fail.

Same here. I am enjoying this ride while it lasts,
and am grateful for all JB has given us so far.
On another note, when I pick up the "X-MEN:
Children of the Atom" omnibus boxed set later this
month, it ends on issue #143. That makes it more
or less nicely dovetail into "X-MEN ELSEWHEN" with
a little adjustment while reading.

Forgive my ignorance, but I was wondering why you felt your time was truncated? Us fans were devastated when you left, of course, but I thought it was your choice---to move on to FF, the flagship title.

That does not sound pleasant.
Sorry to drag out the dirty laundry. I'll assume from your reply the working environment had turned hostile between you and management (and not your co-workers?) who had other ideas for the X-MEN, but were satisfied to let you work your magic on FF. Interesting. What's that old saying about "Success has many fathers..."? I imagine everyone wanted to pilot the X-MEN plane as the title took off.
For what it's worth, the series suffered without you. The spark was gone, and the weird twists and turns the title(s) has taken over the decades had morphed these beloved characters into something unrecognizable. The warmth and uniqueness of their personalities had been replaced by a monotonic, hard-hearted coldness. It seemed the new norm was for everyone to wear a cloak of self-absorption, tragedy, or suppressed rage---a faux-maturity that was largely unbalanced, too dark, and difficult to witness.
The ELSEWHEN stories are so restorative to me---curing a wound I had no idea I was still carrying. I can't stop (re)reading them. I'm excited to discover where the story is going, and my eyes are drinking in all the gorgeous art. A Mastercraft worthy of awards. Thanks again.

Shooter complained about big shots of the villain reveal on the last page. "That just turns the last page into an ad for the next issue," he said. To which we all responded "Which is a bad thing... why?"
…..
One of the enduring memories of reading comic books in my childhood was turning to the last page of Fantastic Four #282 to find a giant Psycho-Man towering menacingly over the FF. It absolutely made me want to get the next issue.

Shooter had two rules (among many):No last page splash reveals of the villain.* No broken logos. I broke both with my Terminus story, and the second issue, with a broken logo following the splash reveal in the first, garnered some of the highest sales of my run.
