A great loss. She was a brilliant writer and story editor, and instrumental in fleshing out the character of Spock, as well as making TOS such a great show.

I don't think I ever realized how young she was when she was working on Trek.

Sad news.

My 18 year old self was much surprised to learn the D stood for Dorothy. A woman writing science-fiction?!?

Saddened to learn of this.

I remember being surprised to see Andre Norton looked a lot like one of my grandmothers, so can imagine some Star Trek viewers were (pleasantly) surprised meeting D.C. Fontana for the first time back in the day. I remember not knowing one of my favorite writers in the magazines, James Tiptree Jr., was a she.

I've known her name for as long as I can remember.  So many great stories and such an impact on the genre both as a trailblazer and as just a damn good writer.

Sorry to learn of her passing.

What a huge influence on Star Trek she had. A sad loss indeed.

Edited to add: if I visualise 'D.C. Fontana' in big yellow letters on a screen, I automatically hear Star Trek cues.

Really sad to hear that she has passed on, without her we would not have the classic ST as it is now.

Someone on Youtube commented that a lot of Trek fans think that Roddenberry was the sole visionary behind Star Trek, some not even knowing who the other people were that worked on it.

I wonder what she would have thought of New Visions, stories such as The Hollow Man.

I would hope she'd have seen that story as I intended, as an extension of "This Side of Paradise" that doesn't write over anything of hers. (Slightly ironic, since she re-wrote the original script for that episode to the extent Jerry Sohl had his name taken off it.)

Sorry to hear.

Besides some of my TOS favorites, she also wrote my favorite TAS episode; "Yeasteyear".

The Yesteryear story focusing on Spock won awards at the time.
