So sayeth a list I just looked over online. Christina Aguilera with a built in light show.

Well, having been forced to participate in her introduction (tho not her creation) I agree she’s lame—but the real reason is that her powers are based on music and song. In a print medium.

Guk!!!

Exactly. That's an intrinsic problem and I can't imagine, therefore, that's a fun character to tell stories with using just words and pictures. So I was surprised when she ended up as a regular for a while in the X-Men. That's when I stopped reading, in fact. Were team line-ups an editorial decision?

Could prove interesting if Dazzler ever crops up in the Marvel films, where suddenly all that light and sound and song would make more sense.

I agree, lame.
But for me it was the intrusion of Disco (or the look thereof) into my world of comics!
A scene here or there fine, but a whole character? Blah!

Of course I had no problem when Alice Cooper got his own issue :-)

“Disco” disappeared from Dazzler’s designation, but the stink lingered.

Tried to like her, but she never "clicked" for me.

Her appearance in X-Men always seemed VERY out of place and reminds me of Patton Oswalt's bit about Jesus as a superhero. Did Dazzler ever encounter Cloak and Dagger? That encounter is about the only one that makes any sense.

When Dazzler first appeared it was already beyond the 'disco sucks' movement in N. America... it's like the mohawks and ripped stockings thing showing up in 1984... kind of well behind the times there Marvel. 1974-76 and she'd be held up as representing the times, 1979... I think even Studio 54 had shut down by then? Maybe she could blast 1978 Chic or Kool & The Gang though... was Michael Jackson's 'Off The Wall' album 1979?

I think powers revolving around dazzling with light are fine minus the music angle; but the Ace Frehley/Kiss face paint and mini-mirroball necklace were hopelessly dated from X-Men #130 on. Alison did become an interesting character. I think I bought the Dazzler comic up to the late #20s or even early #30s. She showed up in a Spider-Man comic early on as well, Amazing #203. I had it then, but don't remember much about it now., nor the mini-series with The Beast.

maybe music is a bad idea, but strangely some of my favorite characters
visually have sound powers

Banshee Black Bolt, Klaw.

Maybe she's just waiting for the right story.

She had her own original graphic novel, back when Marvel did those (so long ago!). It's never been reprinted.

She crops up in Dark Phoenix.
