There are more Christmas films than representatives in Congress.* And there are as many Hannukah** movies as functioning brains in Congress.

What am I missing? The Christmas Story (tm) is about the birth of the Messiah; the travails of His human parents to get to Bethlehem, their efforts to find a place where He can be born, and that birth and some important guests.***

Hannukah is the tale of a band of Jewish brothers in the midst of a war where they defeat a superior force, and happen upon a temple. Per their religious beliefs, the temple holy light* must stay fueled and lit - but there isn't enough oil to last more than a day. Half the force must make their way on a four day trek through enemy territory to obtain more fuel, and then return. Meanwhile, the others have to remain behind to defend the temple from assault. And then, a miracle happens - the fuel in the temple, despite evidence to the contrary, burns for eight days!

Why has this never been made into a movie? It sounds to me that it would make "Die Hard" look like "Frosty the Snowman" returns. Okay, I took a tiny bit of liberty - because, y'know, Hollywood is SO well known for their cleaving to the source material.

Any opinions? Would YOU go to see "HANNUKAH - War of the Maccabees!"

And no, contrary to popular opinion, I don't always post snark. I mean this as a very real experience.

***Another thing that puzzles me; Jesus was not born 33 years old, and I seem to recall that Joseph and Mary had other children as well. Has any story ever dealt with Jesus growing up, or how his siblings reacted? What was it like to be teen aged Jesus?

First, substitute "A" for "The" as the first word. The Bible gives multiple versions of the "Christmas Story", including one in which Mary and Joseph actually LIVE in Bethlehem. And there's no clear consensus on WHO those "guests" are. The Wise Men (how many?) and the shepherds don't show up in the same book, for instance.

Good luck putting together a film that doesn't tick off most of your audience!
