Escaping from Apokolips via Boom Tube, Scott Free finds himself on the outskirts of a circus encampment where the lead aerialist has just been killed by a sniper in the audience. Taking up the role of the murdered man, Free disguises himself from Darkseid's minions and travels the country as the devil-may-care... Deadman! The men and women of the Hill Circus have trouble dealing with how upbeat and positive this guy is compared to the cynical, hard-bitten grouch who used to play the part. As much as they look sideways at this new fellow, the spirit of Boston Brand does so even more...
Why redesign the Human Torch into the Vision? Why not just have him re-awaken, attempt to join the Avengers, and have him turn on them then? Why did Ultron re-color the android, restructure his face, and plunk a solar gem into his noggin? Why not just send the Original Human Torch out to kill the Avengers? Once he finds his true purpose and betrays Ultron instead, might he not stay on in the role, angering the youngster who currently holds ownership of the name? These Marvel heroes... They'll always find some reason to punch one another out! So it goes for the One, the Only, the Original Human Torch! Accept no substitutes!
Luke Cage realizes the whole "Hero For Hire" schtick is sending the wrong the message. He needs a new name. You know who was kicking his own, well-established super-hero sobriquet to the curb and seeking a new identity for himself around that same time...:? Captain America. I do think these two could have worked something out. And hey, with the new, black Captain America joining the FF shortly thereafter, Luke Cage's profile in the super-hero community would be looking up... :-)
