Secret identities. Those are lame! Next we can get rid of the costumes. Lame. And the codenames. Lame.

And then, finally, fighting crime. Lame. Each month we can follow the exploits of our protagonist, as they go to the mall and do their shopping and then in the evening to a bar for a drink. Next issue: DRY CLEANING!! Join us in 30 days.

Yup, secret identities, why bother?A few years back, while still reading DC comics, I was put off by Superman and Batman calling each other "Clark" and "Bruce" - while in costume!

Yes, the movies have for many heroes done away with it. And are the poorer for it.

Seems kind of inconsiderate - would make it a lot easier to figure out who Batman is!

Today's comics continue to ruin my favorite characters.
Thankfully we have back issues to read.

If you think secret identities don't work, you might not want to write superhero comics.

It's one thing if the characters were created without the intent of them having secret identities. The FF is the most obvious example.
Lots of other Marvel characters later had their real identities revealed. In some cases it made sense. When the world found out that the Hulk was Bruce Banner, it just added to Banner's problems and made him a constant man-on-the-run.
But Superman without a secret identity is just too far removed from what Siegel and Shuster intended -- and Superman has long already been rather far from what he initially was. Even JB's MAN OF STEEL didn't revert everything to the status quo circa 1938.

Bendis said something to the effect that if Clark gives up being "a mild-mannered reporter for the Daily Planet" then it opens up the possibility for "a thousand new and different Superman stories."
_________________________________
That is Bendis's go to answer for all of his so called "creative" and "brilliant" ideas, which comes off as kind of arrogant to me. It's as if he thinks that his ideas will leave an indelible mark on the characters that he is writing for years to come and will inspire those who follow him to create lots of "great" stories based off of his lame and unoriginal ideas.
