My mother used to pack a midmorning snack for me when I was in school in England. Other mothers did the same for their children. My snack invariably included cold toast, white bread sodden with butter. I developed quite a taste for it.

Why are there green peas on those fries?
------------------------------------------------------------ -----

Because it's fries with the works.
Fries, onion, peas, and gravy.
Also, I've seen them with grated cheddar, and the previously mentioned
Newfoundland way with stove top stuffing on top.

Oh, the peas have to be the nasty canned ones. Can't use fresh or frozen peas.....just not the same.

Nah, throw them in a bowl, salt, pepper, and lots of butter.
Warm 'em up and snack away.

Bryan: Do Canadians put ketchup on Kraft Dinner? As mentioned in the Barenaked Ladies song.
------------------------------------

Canadians absolutely put ketchup on KD.

And, yes, that picture you posted is the baby I'm talking about.

---------------
That must be where my family gets it from. My grandmother was Canadian. I've always wondered why my Mom's side of the family (and me, unfortunately) puts ketchup on Kraft Mac & Cheese (US name).
Grosses all my friends out.

Thanks!

Ahh! KD, breakfast, lunch and supper of many a college student. You could even get away with just sprinkling the cheese powder on the freshly cooked pasta.

Peas are gross.

++++++++++++++++++++++

Canned peas, yes. Fresh or frozen, absolutely not.

Take a decent sized bag of frozen peas, and thaw it then put the peas in a big bowl or pot. Add shredded cheddar cheese, chopped hard boiled eggs, and some diced onion (optional). Combine some powered ranch dressing mix with mayo, then mix it together with the other ingredients, cover, and chill in the fridge for an hour or two. Overnight is even better.

I will never do that. Peas are gross and mayonnaise is the most abominable concoction ever made by man.

Really being Canadian I have never seen anybody do this must be another regional thing .
It's like saying Americans absolutely eat Bagels and Lox

I've always put ketchup on my KD, it really helps the flavour out.

As for poutine, the basic version is fries with gravy & cheese curds on it but there are many many different versions out there.

With regards to the accent/pronounciation thing, that is definitely regional. The standard cliche of "aboot" and "eh" tends to be an Eastern thing while the Western parts of the country sound more American in general.

And here in Alberta, we call them "lines" not "queues".

And for our American friends, the term is "toque", not "beanie" :p
