“Spaniard” is okay? So long since I’ve heard the term I sort of assumed the PC Police had shunted it off into the Hell of the Formerly Acceptable.

Yes, it's perfectly fine. It's a noun, Spanish is an adjective.

I confess I also thought it was derogatory when I first heard the word. Hell, I didn't even know Canada was a monarchy until the people in this topic started mentioning a mysterious "queen" and her corgis (I thought monarchies were an European thing).

By the way, speaking about (tiny, mutant, with multiple genetic diseases) dogs...

Kennels clubs often mate purebred dogs with their parents and siblings? Utter, utter bollocks.

And the old version of the bulldog was a dog you did not want to meet. The modern bulldog definitely has physiological problems and I would never buy one for that reason, but temperament-wise they are great. And therein you have one of the fallacies in that flippant git's video. "Purebreds are a form of genetic manipulation humans made up just to amuse ourselves". One of the things consistently selected for temperamentally are dogs being biddable, loyal and non-aggressive to their owners. Mutts probably are healthier as whole, all other things being equal, but you haven't got a clue about how they will be temperamentally.

Whereas you know a doberman will be a good watchdog. That a pointer will know how to point. That a poodle's coat will be water repellent. That a border collie will be intelligent. That a spaniel will have a soft mouth. That a Newfoundland will like to swim.

Yeah, all just made up to amuse ourselves.

(and should there be any doubt, the Victorians did not --surprise, surprise -- breed the Shar-Pei, despite what that video suggests)

There was actually a scare back in the 1990s that Canada had abandoned the monarchy, but it proved to be a hoax:

;-)
