Hollywood Squares/Celebrity Squares!
I remember the U.K. version of Married With Children,
it starred Russ Abbott in the Al Bundy role and was
shown at 8pm! Obviously it was never going to work at
that time of day, the humour was watered down way too
much!

Golden Girls/Brighton Belles was another, the trouble
is, why watch a U.K. version when the original and far
superior version is still airing, and the cast cannot
be bettered?

Peter wrote..."Speaking of Family Feud/Fortunes, if
you want a laugh, this cannot fail. I give you the
Great British Public"
I remember watching The Weakest Link, Anne Robinson
asked "Which Jeff wrote The Musical Version of The War
of the Worlds?" Not very with it old guy replies
"Jeff Leppard"

Brian Floyd: "Fawlty Towers - Remade twice."

***

Technically, 3 times, if you count the 1978 TV pilot "Snavely" with Harvey Korman and Betty White in the Basil & Sybil roles.

I didn't include that one because I've read conflicting reports on whether or not that even aired. If it never aired, then it might as well not even exist.

Other British to American shows that did not work:

The US tried "The IT Crowd" as a pilot, and even included Richard Ayoade reprising his role as Moss.  Didn't get picked up, and my view was that they couldn't duplicate the wackiness of the original (and they made the female lead glamourous).  In the original British version, the female lead, Katherine Parkinson, was more ordinary.

Just an added note about Coupling. The British Coupling was fabulous.  Sure, it was loosely based on Friends, but the premise, and the themes of the episodes, just didn't translate to an American audience.

Veep is sort of a re-do of The Thick of It.

Same show runner, so more an extension than a re-do.

(Reviews described THE DEATH OF STALIN as “VEEP, but with more executions.)

I really liked the U.S. version of Open All Hours which was 'Open All Night'. It was a mini-mart type of situation rather than a corner shop, and had a former NFL Football star employee. I think it lasted a half a season. :^(

I've seen that pilot of Red Dwarf U.S., it was truly and astonishingly awful. Not good. Bad. Except Kryten/Robert Llewellyn was in it. Everything else very very bad (to use the Presidential vocab).

There was a plan for Bill Cosby to do a U.S. version of One Foot In The Grave... I think we know what shot that in the foot...

The Cosby version, Cosby, ran for four seasons, 96 episodes.

I don't believe it!

The exteriors for One Foot in the Grave were nearly all filmed in my home town.

I loved that show!  Although I remember nothing about it but one bit where a guy wants change for a dollar, but the owner (George Dzundza) only gives change with a purchase.  But the guy needs the whole dollar's change, so that won't work.  I think he tries a couple of times, eventually coming back to say "I'd like to make a purchase." before revealing what he would like to purchase is "four quarters".
