I was reading an article about NBC in the 80s and came across a show that was meant to be a comeback show for Suzanne Somers in the 80s (She's the Sheriff). I remembered she was on a show in the 70s "Three's Company" which then reminded me that that show was based on a UK Sitcom called Man about the House. Well, it got me thinking about other TV shows the US have 'stolen' from us Brits. Here's a (not comprehensive) list:

UK: To Death do us Part - US: All in the Family
UK: Man about the House - US: Three's company
UK: Steptoe and Son - US: Sanford and Son
UK:The Office - US: The Office

Are there any more? And are there any  programmes where we've 'nicked' it from the US and adapted it to UK audiences?

The most obvious and recent success is Netflix's HOUSE OF CARDS, based on an earlier UK series

Back in 2013 ABC launched MISTRESSES as a summer TV series, which was based on a BBC series. It lasted 4 series.

Everyone always forgets about Bill Cosby's post-Cosby Show sitcom, COSBY, which ran 4 seasons on CBS starting in 1996. That was based on a UK series called One Foot In The Grave.

Those are just the three that pop up off the top of my head. I'm sure there are dozens of more, over the decades, including many that simply didn't last very long and are thus forgotten.

To piggyback off MAN OF THE HOUSE, GEORGE AND MILDRED was a spinoff from it and was remade as THE ROPERS here which was a spinoff of THREE'S COMPANY.

They tried to do an American version of Red Dwarf with Terry Farrell as Cat, but it didn't get past a pilot.

Not a TV show, but the Oscar-winning film Traffic from 2000 was lifted from the 1989 Channel 4 serial Traffik.

A biggie:

Showtime's current Chicago-set Shameless, the longest-running series in that network's history, is a reworked version of Channel 4's Manchester-set Shameless.

Yes American Idol came directly from Pop Idol, but Pop Idol really evolved from Popstars, which originated Down Under.

Dear John - Same name in both countries.

Fawlty Towers - Remade twice. First as Amanda's with Bea Arthur. Then Payne, starring John Laroquette. Both Instantly forgetable and neither lasted an entire season.

Seems like most of the UK remakes from US TV were game/reality shows.

I do remember hearing about a UK remake of WHO'S THE BOSS. Had to look it up, THE UPPER HAND.

One that made me grin; TEEN MOM/TEEN MUM
