Netflix has a new documentary called Spitfire, but the movie was made in 2018. I watched it this morning and found it to be very good viewing. I knew there were various versions of the plane, but had no idea there were so many. I found the interviews with RAF and German pilots from WWII particularly interesting. I recommend it to everyone.

Ok. Just finished it.

Just lovely.  The Spitfire is a gorgeous piece of kit.  And deadly as well.

However....Iíd say the North American P-51D Mustang is THE most beautiful fighter of WW2.

The two together make for a kick ass aviation beauty pageant.

Iíll join you to praise the Mustang, but the Spit wins on an almost lyrical level. No other plane I know of looks so fast and graceful when itís just standing still!

Iíd refuse to debate it.  Both make my eyes get all dreamy in Tex Avery fashion.

But neither are my favorite WW2 warbirds.  Iím a die hard, drop dead fan of the Vought F4U Corsair!   That thing just makes my heart, brain and soul get all weird!  Itís far from pretty.  But it looks like it was born to unleash hell.

Same for the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt.  If the Hulk was an airplane....
