I have added "characters" to the title. There are many heroes an villains that deserve their own movie.

When it comes to known characters, a movie based on Lex Luthor would probably work well.

Regarding obscure ones (for the main public, at least), I can think of Deadman and other similar characters in the DC universe.

Wallace S. - I sense a theme here. :) Maybe you'd consider a movie version of Avengers #3 as well?

Carlos V. - A Luthor movie might be a hit, or it might crash and burn as the Joker movie seems to have (regardless of sales.)

And it's hard to tell a Luthor story without Superman. Mind you, there are PLENTY of good Luthor vs Superman stories... "The Showdown Between Luthor and Superman" or "The Team of Luthor and Brainiac", so there's fuel for that fire...

Say, how about a hero/villain movie? Say, about Dr. Doom (done well, mind you ) or Eclipso? Eclipso started without super hero involvement; it might work well.

I will probably never watch Joker because I'm not into drama, but I hope they don't take the same approach if they do a Luthor movie.

A movie where Luthor, the Joker, or Dr. Doom is the main chraracter, with respect for the comics, has the potential to be a good one (and will probably never happen). And that movie should include heroes too.

I've said repeatedly even to some people who have a stake in the matter that "Terror In A Tiny Town" would be my pick for the (re)launch of the FF into movies. Everything needed for both civilians & longtime fans is baked right into the story.

I prefer the Donald Blake Thor who resumes his human form after being separated from his hammer for more than a minute.

Getting rid of Donald Blake worked for what Simonson was doing (and also for the movies), but the status quo should have been restored after Simonson was done.  I remember really liking that down-to-Earth aspect from when I started reading the 70's issues and also reprints of the Lee/Kirby era--one more chance for extra drama!

I would love faithful live action movie versions of all the Marvel and DC big guns!  But I'd also like the following:

METAL MEN--in computer animation!
PLASTIC MAN--ditto!
WARLORD--dinosaurs and mythical creatures...that would be awesome to see in live action!
SKULL, THE SLAYER--ditto!
GREEN ARROW--still no big screen version?
ADAM STRANGE--the potential as a space movie is amazing!
HAWKMAN--ditto!
KILLRAVEN--a WAR OF THE WORLDS movie sequel seems decades overdue, and the Killraven version would be my first choice.
BLUE BEETLE--the Ted Kord version has everything you'd want in a Marvel movie...too bad DC owns him.
NAMOR is overdue.
DOLL MAN--it seems that DC may have missed the boat with the Atom (ANT-MAN has everything you'd want from an ATOM movie), but Doll Man might be different enough for a fresh approach.

Good ideas, Eric!

Metal Men has potential.

Miracleman could be amazing. But with Marvel controlling the rights, I could never see them doing such dark subject matter in their movie universe.

Peter - I agree with you there, I forgot to mention Miracleman... But you are right, it will never be made. Speaking about Alan Moore, perhaps an adaptation of the Future Shocks/Time Twisters series would also be interesting, but in this case it appears to be more suited for TV.

The golden-age Human Torch and Namor would make a great movie, with parallel story lines of their development leading up to their climactic battle. Apart from the symbolism of fire vs. water, their origins of an android who proves to be more human and found acceptance despite his artificial origins and champions them, opposing one who is half human but has declared war on them I think would play well off of each other.

The Goodwin & Simonson Manhunter storyline. While I think this would be ideally suited as part of a longer tv series, it could also work for the movies with very little changes.

MIRACLEMAN would make for an incredibly violent movie. It would have to be R-rated. DEADPOOL proved that an R-rated superhero (or costumed anti-hero, anyway) movie can work, but DEADPOOL was comedy. MIRACLEMAN would be depressing as hell. It would end up as worse "disaster porn" than MAN OF STEEL.

It's best that it not be adapted, although as a story I like it better than WATCHMEN (which ended up as a mostly awful movie too -- gee, there's Zack Snyder again...).

I'd love to see '30s-'40s settings with the great original super generation characters if done well... I mean I was disappointed in The Rocketeer and first Captain America movie in various ways so maybe I'm just extremely picky... could it perhaps be British based? They do such a good job with period dramas. Also late '50s-early '60s done well ala the great early FF vs. Sub-Mariner stories (though I'm afraid that would be focused mainly on the same CGI extravaganzas of armies we've been seeing since Lord Of The Rings).I actually kind of liked X-Men First Class for the setting (there were other things I really didn't feel worked at all of course).

So 'Golden Age' stories? The first Doctor Fate from More Fun? The Spectre or Sub-Mariner in WWII sinking Japanese ships? Miss Fury or Phantom Lady in a Europe/U.S. set espionage story?
