What is "Room 101?"

A UK comedy panel show where celebrities consign 2
things they hate to Room 101. Room 101 being the torture
chamber in 1984.

Rap and Gospel are the two genres that come to mind where you can be successful with little if any talent. Though there are plenty of talented musicians in both.

I like *some* rap, but gangsta rap ruined the genre.

I totally agree, Brian. I can see similarities with Rap and the 70's Punk movement in Britain. It told everyone (with or without talent):'You can have your voice to say what you want.'

It gave us pioneers and shook up the music scene, but it also produced a lot of s**t.

I still love hip-hop, but the golden age of hip-hop was a long time ago -- even during the "gangsta" years there were still other strains that were very different, tho --  and I can't deal with "trap music" which is the newest mainstream form of hip-hop.

And I think putting hip-hop acts in the R&RHOF was an error. Hip-hop may be derived from funk -- that's where the rhythm came from -- but it really is its own thing. It's not a rock & roll sub-genre. (Funk itself is -- there's a very straight line from Little Richard to James Brown.)

As I said before, there are lots of Black musicians who've played something other than hip-hop who should be in the HOF already.

I also have a hard time thinking of any musical genre -- certainly any popular music genre -- that hasn't produced a lot of shit.
