Sadly this spoof really is NOT very far off in terms of
exaggerating what the movie-makers do to various
decades-old, all-ages friendly properties.

It’s become pathological. The ancient Hollywood claim that “changes must be made” has been pushed to sometimes grotesque extremes. Fidelity to the source material has become anathema—and with fans and civilians alike streaming to stuff the box office, why would moviemakers think to do anything else?

(Note that this parody also includes a few gender swaps!)

It's a good joke and the spoof is very well made.

But "seriously", it's not the same. The Joker, unlike good ol' Oscar, was pretty much always portrayed as a psychopathic killer.

And his even darker turn was made in the comics themselves more than 30 years ago so I don't think it's entirely fair to blame Hollywood.

The only `darker tone' made to the Joker really was making him insane in the 1970's. Before they were forced to tone things down in the 1950's and made him less...murderous....the Joker was just plain pure evil. He killed people just because he could. THE KILLING JOKE just added some of that plain evil to the insanity.

When it was announced that Doomsday would be an escapee from an “interstellar insane asylum” there were protests from various mental health organizations, and the idea was scrapped. Yet DC has been shipping the likes of the Joker off to Arkham (sigh) for decades with, so far as I’ve heard, nary a blip.

Magnificently skewers the overt smearing of a grim-and-gritty "grown-up" aesthetic upon children's entertainment, and also illustrates the prosaic results of reducing the long-established, unique physicality of a character to just some average guy in shitty make-up...

I preferred it when the theory was that the Joker wasn't really crazy but was just an expert at pretending to be, so he'd be sent to Arkham rather than given the death penalty.

Then someone just had to go and decide that he actually was nuts and its not an act.

But then that's mild compared to the recent garbage that's been done with the character. (Having his own face cut off, possibly being immortal, and the 3 different Jokers crap.)
