Mr. Byrne, since we're on the same page TOS was set in the timeline of 22nd Century; when do you believe Zefram Cochrane discovered the space warp?

STAR TREK’s timeline works best for me if the episodes are set in the late 2190s. So Cochrane having “died” as “an old man” 150 years earlier puts that around 2040. His “discovery” of the space warp would likely have been about 40 years before that, or 2000.

It was in all the papers.

Sir, where do you believe Cochrane was born, and from your perspective are there stories to be told from Alpha Centauri?

No matter how long I live, or where, it seems I will always be identified as Canadian. It matters not that I have been an American citizen* almost half my life, there are those who will not let me leave Canada where it belongs, in my Past.

For Cochran to be identified as “...of Alpha Centauri” then, to me, means he was born and lived on a planet of that star. Surely Earth would not have let go of him were it otherwise.

* No, not dual citizenship, either. I’m a damn Yankee! (A Connecticut Yankee, no less!)

Mr Byrne,

Would you have liked to have used Cochrane in a story?

I did try to think of a way to do it without impinging on the end of “Metamorphosis”.
