Scott Dunbier informs me that at least one correspondent was NOT amused by the dazed-and-confused selfie I provided IDW to illustrate their press release about my attendance at the NYCCon next month.

According to Scott the fellow not only informed him that it was a picture of that OTHER John Byrne, the Scottish playwright/painter who also happens to be Tilda Swinton’s former significant other, but that I would no doubt be MOST DISPLEASED about the mix-up.

Just to repeat, the picture is a selfie. Of me.

I share a name with the husband of actress Alana de la Garza, probably best known as ADA Connie Rubirosa in the various Law & Orders. I might not object to finding out I was actually married to her.

I find one of the benefits of having a common name is that it makes it difficult to Google me.

All I have is that I used to get mail in my P.O. Box for another Brian Floyd that owned a construction company in a city in a neighboring county.

The difference was his name had a middle initial on the labels (Been so long I forget what it was), while Brian is actually my middle name but what I go by.

There are a number of people out there with my name, all of them, even the teenagers, apparently more accomplished than I.

I had a childhood friend named John Connor and an art school buddy named Chris Smith. I will never find either of these guys on the internet. Ever.

I am not the 18th century poet and friend to Keats and Shelley. And not many people have confused me with him either.

There are plenty of Steven Myers, with various of spellings of both names. My favorite is the character from the movie Ides of March. Ryan Gosling did very well portraying me, I think!

The late Peter Finch starred in a British movie called NO LOVE FOR JOHNNIE. He played a politician named John Byrne, which I thought was cool the one and only time I saw the film on TV.

In later years I would come to think that title had far too much to do with my own real life!

It's amazing how often people seem to confuse me for some other Koroush Ghazi who's apparently a smartalecky jerk. Can't wait to meet this guy and tell him how much harm he's causing my reputation.
