Pretty sure it was the Captain America and the Falcon with Arnim Zola in which the Falcon did not appear. Got it for my birthday I think, in a pack of 3 comics. (Thor with "soul survivors" and Premiere "3D Man" story were the others).

Second was reprint of "The Torch Goes Wild"!!! Read that one to pieces!!

It seems strange now, but Marvel was doing a lot of reprint comics when I came on board, so I'm sure it was some issue of MARVEL'S GREATEST COMICS reprinting the Fantastic Four or, at the same time, MARVEL DOUBLE FEATURE reprinting CAPTAIN AMERICA---it's hard to tell which particular issue though.  At about the same time, there were the big Treasury Editions featuring the FANTASTIC FOUR and the little pocket books with THE INCREDIBLE HULK--amazing how both Kirby and Ditko looked great whether at giant or tiny size!

Probably the first new work I saw was when he took over the writing and drawing of my favorite comic CAPTAIN AMERICA, starting with #193 (Jan, 1976).  I started CAP with the beautifully clear Sal Buscema art, but CAP suffered for a few months with rotating artists, so 70's Kirby was a bit of a shock (a little weirder than the Joe Sinnott-inked FF reprints), but it was nice to have a regular artist again.  And Kirby soon won me over.  I think his stint on CAP was great and probably his best writing.

I think it was the issue of the FF where they and the Avengers take
on the Hulk. It wasn’t until two decades later that I read the first part of
the story where Ben takes on the jade giant all by his lonesome. (I
remember seeing - and loving - that cover as a kid, but not reading the
story.)

Either a Green Arrow reprint from an Action Comics Giant of the early 70s long before I knew who he was or Marvel's Greatest Comics #29 which reprinted Fantastic Four 12 (The FF Meet The Hulk).

I don't remember for sure, but it was one of the following:

Marvel's Greatest Comics #53, which reprinted FF #70
Black Panther vol 1 #4
Eternals #11

I acquired all of those around the same time.

Fantastic Four #80, with the battle against the giant robot Tomazooma.

Since I had been exposed to the Gigantor and Astro Boy dubbed cartoon series prior to reading that issue, I think that is the main reason why I still remember it as my first Kirby comic, due to Tomazooma.

Not really sure. Most likely it would have been the reprints in the "Secret Story" books for either Hulk (the origin section from Hulk #1), Captain America (an abridged Avengers #4 and, IIRC, Tales of Suspense #81) or the Fantastic Four (the origin section from FF #1 and #83). I don't remember what order I read those in originally.

The first "first run" stuff would've been Super Powers #1 (plot, cover), various Who's Who pages and DC Comics Presents #84 (with the Challengers of the Unknown).
