The late Monkey Punch's international thief will have his first full 3D CGI movie coming in December:
Toho Movie Link
From Takashi Yamazaki, the director of the live-action Space Battleship Yamato movie (2010), and the Always: Sunset on Third Street films (noted for this sequence )

American animators could take a few tips from this, most notably in not redesigning the characters to make them "realistic".+++++++ (noted for this sequence ) •• I was blown away by that, when I first caught it accidentally online. I LOVE that the CGI Godzilla has folds across the back of his knees just like the rubber suit!

Looks fantastic. This type of translation was what I was hoping for with TINTIN.

Looks interesting, and for me it confirms something I've championed in the past: I would prefer superhero movies to be done in full CGI. So many benefits: characters always on model, they never age, never a need to compromise the character to suit the style of the actor playing him or her; all aspects of the hero's world recreated faithfully - costumes, accessories, weapons, locations, combat styles etc. all portrayed perfectly.
As an added bonus you could even do each particular hero in their most recognizable or popular style: e.g. Miller Daredevil, Simonson Thor, Byrne Fantastic Four, Alpha Flight, X-Men, etc.
Maybe in the past CGI was a bit iffy for this, but I think, judging by the Lupin example, we're there now.

There's only one way to find out!
Given the FF movies to date have lowered expectations to almost zero and essentially killed the franchise, 3DCGI could be just the gimmick it needs for a relaunch.
The Peanuts Movie's use of 3DCGI seemed to fare reasonably well critically and commercially, and this Lupin III outing will no doubt do a roaring trade.
A Kirby/Sinnott style FF origin movie, a Buscema style follow up (Surfer or Hulk vs. Thing), then a Byrne style Doom or Galactus story... would be absolutely amazing!

On that note, a Buscema styled Conan would be crazy fun. About four months ago I was in a local shop looking for Lupin III stuff and there was nothing. The shop owner looked up their distributor and saw a few new figures being released. I wondered why such an older property was getting new merch, but now I know.

I've always wondered why folks, especially supporter of comics, go to see films in live action, when, in my opinion, animation, whether 2D or 3D works perfectly fine. As Koroush stated, you are not under the limitations of the real world.

CGI, which was the scourge of hand-drawn animation, may have begun to redeem itself.
