Bob, yes. And what too many fans fail to realize is that not only was Marvel not in a position to really barter much with the major film studios back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, BUT, the irony is that had they not done those deals then, Marvel would have not made the money it did to start producing its own films with "Iron Man" in 2008, which led to Disney noticing Marvel Studios early successes and buying the company.

In other words, as bad as a deal as Marvel seemingly made with Fox, Sony, and Universal, had they not done so, there surely would have been no MCU today. It was Sony and Fox's successes that led to Marvel having enough money to start its own movie production company. It's a catch-22, and frankly, I don't see how they had any other choice when the original contracts were made.

Dunno if this is true: if Sony Studios is sold, they automatically lose their rights to Spider-Man. So Disney might not need to buy Sony to regain the rights.

In any case, what are we really missing? A Peter Parker who controls death-satellites and Tony Stark's armory is not really Spider-Man anymore.

Went to see it again last night...still a great movie, and based on track record I
seriously doubt Sony can keep the pace up on their own.

Two more Spider-Man movies from Sony Only, huh?

So, we're probably talking about an origin story in flashback and fighting Venom and/or Norman and/or Harry Osborne.

Yawn.

I know it doesn't look good, but I'm not writing off a Sony/Disney deal until the film actually goes into production.  There were months of back-and-forth with the Disney/Fox deal where it would look like there was little hope of the X-Men being brought into the fold.

If it is the end of the line for Spider-Man in the MCU, my interest in both will take a hit.  With Iron Man and Captain America out, Spider-Man is my last remaining favorite in the MCU.  SPIDER-VERSE aside, I'm not too optimistic about what Sony will do with the character.

(And, worse case, if Sony is going to proceed without a MCU connection, I hope they just DON'T MENTION it.  I don't want to sit through an entire movie with a convoluted explanation about how Spider-Man is in a parallel universe now.)

So, how is that different from INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE?  ;-)

Well. I can't say I was expecting this.

Note -- I'm just sending this link for news, I don't necessarily agree with the opinions of the narrator.
