Trump will now claim that soap, clean water, and barely adequate living conditions were HIS idea; they're his way of solving the problem. Once again, he will take credit for solving a problem that HE created.

I wonder how long it will take him to invite these prisoners of war to the White House and extol his grand virtues in doing so.

His next step, I suppose, is to kill them to stop them being an issue. Or possibly make slaves of them for his private service squad. Plenty of tasks at Mar-A-Lago for children to do.

Such is the USA we currently live in.

It does annoy me when people say "this isn't normal." It's very much the old normal -- just not the normal we've been used to since, say, the Voting Rights Act. Woodrow Wilson racially segregated Washington D.C., after all.

What isn't normal is that we have a president who's never read the Constitution and doesn't care. Every previous president, conservative or liberal or whatever, knew the rules -- and when they broke them deliberately, like Nixon, they at least tried to cover it up. Trump isn't even smart enough to do that.

The evolution of our laws took thousands of years to get to a point we might consider civilised for everyone... And it is certainly a jolt that today, after all that, we need a ruling to decree civilised behaviour towards these people.

John Donne wrote 400 years ago that 'any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind' and yet here we are.
