I tried to find the thread where JB answered my question about who Kitty Pryde was based on(visually) but the search feature wasn't working for me.  Anyway, was looking at the Elsewhen inking thread when it reminded me of the Sigourney Weaver talk and I wanted to see what she would look like in an X-Men uniform.  This is my poor digital attempt at how she would look:

Ha! That's awesome!

Having "met" Sigourney Weaver in Ghostbusters, she was always older and I couldn't really see where the influence was. Then, I watched ALIEN for the very first time a few weeks ago (yes, you read that right) and BAM! there it was, clear as day.

My version of Kitty was, of course, done decades before Google. I created her face out of my imagination, lacking any real reference.

Semi-amusing to wonder what Kitty would have looked like if I could have summoned up images of young Sigourney as easily then as today.

Hard to think of the real Sigourney being just a couple of months shy of 70.

Trivia - Sigouney is 6 feet tall.  A lot of male co-stars have to stand on a box for close ups beside her.

This thread prompted me to Google Kitty. All entries on her list Chris and me as her creators—often with Chris coming first.

It’s an important lesson in how the creative and “collaborative” processes work. I created Kitty from the ground up, concept, name, powers, backstory, the works. Scripting her first appearance Chris added his own elements, such as her being a “genius,” which I didn’t want, but didn’t know about until I saw the published issue.

It was Chris’ habit of straying (sometimes wildly) from what he, or I, or both of us had plotted that prompted Shooter to offer me script approval. But that didn’t seem part of my job. I felt it was for the editor(s) to make sure Chris stayed within the traces. Eventually I just gave up and left the book.

JB, was it your decision to change her uniform from the red/white boots to yellow?

edit to add; Also black and white uniform.

I never really had a problem with how Chris developed Kitty UNTIL the Kitty/Wolverine miniseries. He totally warped the character I had a huge crush on up to that point.

Fair enough. But get back to us after you create a character someone else warps into something entirely against your original intent.

Sorry, JB. I just meant I wasn’t introduced to her until Smith was on the book and she didn’t seem to be much different than how she appeared in her first appearance, which I got later. I can understand the frustration you must feel as the creator, and I certainly didn’t intend to add to it.

I remember Kitty was supposed to be a "genius," according to Claremont, when she first appeared. But I don't remember her doing anything in later X-MEN issues which would indicate that she was.

Anyone have a better memory than I do on this?
