The 1993 BBC sitcom Goodnight Sweetheart had time-traveller Gary Sparrow performing modern-day pop songs, often Beatles numbers, in 1940s London. He passes them off as his own compositions. In one episode he ends up singing "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" by The Smiths to Noel Coward!

Hey cool, glad you brought up Goodnight Sweetheart, Robbie!
A fave show of mine, I have all the episodes on DVD..and I mentioned the show to my friend, after we saw Yesterday together.

I love when he passed off Beatles (and others) numbers as his own. Lol
Remember the episode where George Formby wanted to record "When I`m 64", 20+ years "too early", after hearing Gary perform it? :)
Good stuff!
