I really have no idea where this story is going and I love it. My entire time as a comic fan I've had upcoming blurbs and previews. And while JB has shown us some pages here and there that's all I've seen.
In many ways this is a very unusual and unique experience. The feeling of not knowing what the next issue, or the next page, will be is quite nice. Thanks for doing this, JB, and in the process giving us all a very different comics experience. I've never had it before and I'd like a lot more of it.

Awesome! I would say this is a dream come true, but I never
dreamed we could read a new JB X-Men rendered only in
pencil. Fantastic!!

The feeling of not knowing what the next issue, or the next page, will be is quite nice. •• When I came online for the first time, immediately I noticed there were many fans who complained that the books were "too predictable". By paying a bit of attention, I quickly realized these were the people who were reading PREVIEWS and WIZARD and other spoiler rags, and so knew months in advance what was going to be published. I suggested that maybe they stop doing that for a while, and see if the books became less "predictable". The general response was "HOW DARE YOU TELL ME HOW TO READ COMICS!!!", but a precious few took me up on it, and a few months later, lo and behold, reported they now found that the stories were suddenly not so predictable after all!

JB, are you going to put each issue in it's own thread...?•• Yes, each issue gets its own thread, and a separate thread for comments. As I mentioned, I am going to pause for a little bit, now, to let this issue "soak in", so I'll be starting "Issue 2" probably on Monday.

Wow. What a great story. Granted, we have the benefit of a certain amount of perspective and understanding because we all know what happened after JB left the book, but this is a fantastic book. Great story (I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with the entity), wonderful art and the best way I can see to relive and revive my youth. Thanks, JB.

Sorry to be parroting what everyone else is saying, but this has been an absolute blast! I'm loving the page (plus) a day reveal, I'm loving seeing more of your pencils and I'm enjoying a return to the X-Men team I know and love after a very long time.
Once again, thank you for doing this. This is the most fun I've had reading comic book content since... well, last summer when you started this! But it's been a looooong time before that...
Enjoy the 4th, JB, and I'll be patiently waiting for the start of issue 2!

That was a very good first issue. I am happy to have the occasion to read it. To see again the X-Men i like is a reunion with old friends i missed very much for way too long.

Dear Fake Letters Page,
X-Men Elsewhen #1 is a wonderful and layered treat that delivers surprises
in every direction while bringing the fundamental pleasures I wanted on
hearing John Byrne was gonna return to the "new" X-Men.
First, I think the point of "continuing" from the originally intended ending of
the Fate of the Phoenix has a natural power. The story feels legitimate and
expansive without any negativity that would come from "fixing" what
someone else had done. This little "spur" of continuity was just hanging
there and continuing it is surprisingly satisfying.
And it seems that bringing the necessary amount of creativity to pull this off
properly has brought some inherent surprises -- like the fact this is a fully
contained single issue story. That's a surprise today, when so few comic
books are done that way. But it is also a welcome choice in establishing a
flavor that is somehow current and yet fitting to the X-Men as last seen. All
of the characters fall into this category for me-- they are on-model for the
time, and that means there are surprising reminders of how things have
changed: Kitty Pryde is a smart and nervous new-comer; Wolverine is a
back-ground character; Cyclops is a natural leader who commands respect
and generally trusts his teammates. Peter is young and brave and
passionate.
Kudos to the writing. All of this surprisingly on-point characterization is
shown through action. The lack of speechifying is notable because the
Claremont scripted original series was so thoroughly script-filled (to my
delight, at the time). The new, less-talky story feels so damn similar to me
because, even without all the talking, the same characters are clearly there,
revealing themselves in how they approach their problem.
My only wish as this first issue came to a close was that Modok had
somehow managed to pose a more elongated threat to our heroes. Scott's
defeat of Modok with Kitty's assist is cleverly ruthless, and more is not
necessary in any way. But Modok really wasn't prepared to handle the X-
Men and his petty dream crumbled pretty quickly. I was left thinking about
his fate and that of the A.I.M. agents and Dr. Lykos. But, like so many other
elements of this comic book, these feelings are appropriate to what comic
books once were and can be -- this feels like the serialized story of a
Marvel comic book set in an expansive world where, somewhere beyond the
panel borders, there are other on-model Marvel characters. So I'm not
saying my "wish" for more should imply that anything's lacking. It's more
that the story made me realize this is the only place where this seemingly
"real" Marvel universe exists.
Ah, the bitter-sweet pain of seeing paradise again where, for so long, it's
been thousands of miles of paved parking lot!

You want more MODOK. Jim Warden hoped Sauron would be in the second issue. I’m sure everyone has something!But I’m nine or ten “issues” past this point, and what’s done is done!

JB: Not sure if this has yet been addressed, but does the Savage Land hold a particular fascination for you? I ask because of its central appearance in all of your X-Men runs versus its relative obscurity in Marvel continuity.
