I am also fine with whatever pace you choose, JB. Of course, I am anxious to get to each new page, but I can also appreciate the suspense about what happens next.

Two amazing pages; I love the quiet scenes you draw maybe most of all - so much expression in the faces, so much detail in the surroundings.

These are the kinds of scenes I used to dread, back when I was working with these characters the first time around. Took a lot of years to get comfortable with the "quiet" stuff--tho even back in the day I would often receive praise for those scenes. Go fig!

Quality pencils; striking use of shadow in that last page, and great expression in Jean's sister eyes when she is venting to the Professor.

Beautiful pages - and cathartic!

It's been years since I first learned the plan for a de-powered Phoenix
meant there would be a 5 year old Jean Grey stuck in her adult body. My
understanding is this punishment was to be permanent -- and that just
seemed so horrible.

I guess it's humane to let any part of Jean live after she murdered billions,
but still!

However, this scene of Jean's Dad begging for progress in her recovery
hadn't occurred to me. He's speaking my heart. The feelz! I love it.

And, wow, has Scott become good at shutting off pieces of heart or what?
He hasn't even mentioned Jean. I love it.

That's a great question and now that you pose it, I realize it is kind of the key
question any writer can ask about who Cyclops really is?

It also speaks to the mission of the X-Men - this isn't a lark or a pass-time. It's
a full on calling to be an X-Man, where the personal problems of a few tiny
mutants don't amount to a hill of beans.

I love the backgrounds. I know some people have unfairly criticized you for supposedly not drawing backgrounds in the past, JB, and I never understood that criticism.  I recall admiring your detailed backgrounds all the way back to the Hellfire club issues of the X-Men. Great work then and now. 

I also really like the shading on Professor Xavier's face at the top of the page where he is speaking on the phone to Jean's father.  It has a Neal Adams vibe in a way.

There was a period in the Eighties during which time and tide led to dropping backgrounds. It wasn’t a long period, and as you note it was hardly representative of my entire career. Unfortunately, the minibrains have room for only one thought at a time, and once they locked onto that one it became a mantra.
