Equal parts intrigue and depression, but I cannot look away. The series reached the halfway point with episode three, two days ago. It is horrifying and I wonder how much is sensationalized and/or fictional. I don't mind the inconsistent accents one bit because the story is very compelling. I see similarities in the levels of beaurocratic ignorance and public disregard with politicians today and then.

It is frighting.

I also wonder how much is "true" and how much is exaggerated.

Thanks for the article, JB. I understand combining the voices of scientists into a single character that Emily Watson plays for TV, but in general the show seems representative of the events.

The series is finished and while liberties are certainly taken to tell the story, I found it very engaging. Here is a great article that I recommend reading AFTER viewing the series. I think a certain amount of enjoyment would be ruined if you read about the various parts that were unfaithfully represented before watching it. It is only five hours long, but I think it was eye opening.

Excellent mini-series. I do feel I have a better understanding of what happened.

I'm surprised I had not known more about it prior.

I remember it happening, and Welsh lamb being taken off
the market as fallout drifted across the mountains of
North Wales. But this series really showed the sheer
incompetence, lies, cover ups and disregard for the
safety of the population of Europe to save face. The
facts about how a reactor works and the effects of the
different levels of radiation were explained in a very
easy to understand way.
I read last week that Russia is to make it`s own
version...to reveal the truth!

Final episode was suitably gripping.

Interesting fact post Chernobyl.
During my degree which covered things like soil science (87 to 91), we talked about how the radiation fallout would be used in years to come to date soil layers due to its unique properties & exact date.
