So, set for Disney+ in November of this year.

It stars the Red Viper himself Pedro Pascal in the title role; the series runner is
Jon Favreau and other cast members include Nick Nolte, Werner Herzog and
Carl Weathers. So quite an interesting bunch! The music is by Black Panther
composer Ludwig Göransson.

Impressive list of creators. Is this the first test of expanding the Star Wars universe beyond the "rebellion" characters for Disney/Lucasfilm? I don't know if they have revealed any story points for this series but I assume it is not just another way to tell the Boba Fett story?

I think the idea is it's like a gunslinger on the frontier type deal. Not a Boba Fett-related story, as far as I can tell, beyond the connection of being from the same race of people. Jon Favreau has said this is a character we have never seen before, in a time period we've never seen before (it's set a few years after ROTJ).

Overall,  it looks interesting to me. However,  I have one nitpick: The guy we see in the trailer who has been frozen in carbonite. As I understand it,  this series will take place before "The Empire Strikes Back." Well, in that movie, Boba Fett objects to Darth Vader using the carbonite chamber to freeze Han Solo. This is because that is not the intended use for the carbonite freezing process, to freeze people,  and he is worried Solo will not survive the process. Vader tells Fett he will be compensated if Solo dies.

My point is, the use of the carbonite freezing on living beings in "The Mandolarian" is fan service, but for me it undermines what we saw in TESB. It's not enough to ruin the series for me, but it's one of those things done in such projects that I find annoying.

This series takes place AFTER Return of the Jedi.

Oh Matt, that ship sailed long, long ago. The original EU had people being frozen in carbonite all over the place and even in stories set thousands of years before Empire.

Pretty sure the Clone wars cartoon had a carbon freeze in one episode.

But at least this one is allowed as, as Brian says, it takes place after Jedi (damn, can't use that now thanks to that other one), ROTJ

Now we have two Mandalorian discussions going - I think this should be on the
Disney+ thread.

I'm unlocking this thread and bumping it so we can have a discussion about the series in its own thread.

I've enjoyed both episodes so far. The first one was fine enough,  but the second one was better, which is promising.

I wonder how much influence Dave Filoni has with this series.  He has always been the one person who was closest to the right Star Wars-y "tone"

The only problem I have so far is that each episode has one scene that goes just a smidge too far with the slapstick.
