Third time’s the charm?

At least the casting is somewhat better for this go-round.

I may stand in a small minority, but I do like Lynch's version, warts and all. I thought the casting wasn't one of its significant flaws. Rebecca Ferguson is a good choice for Jessica, but so was Francesca Annis.

Paul Atreides is always going to be problematic because he's so young and kinda special. Come 2020, Tim Chalamet will be very similar in age to Kyle Mclahlan's 1984 vintage. Which is to say, a man grown and, therefore, firmly off the mark.

I recently saw a fan-edit of the Lynch Dune (by a guy named Spice Diver) that restores all kinds of cut scenes, re-orders some things, and generally makes it align much more closely to the book.  It's now my go-to Dune.

I hated the TV movie version.

Guy still jumps right in with the Guild Navigator. Fail.

There was a news article about this a couple of days ago where they said they are splitting it into two movies and "expanding on some things that the book hinted at" which seems like a red flag to me.

Really Big Herbert fan here.
I had zero problems with the first DUNE.
My favorite book brought to life. Hell ya.

Wasn't what I 'saw' when I read the book, but it was pretty damn close  enough.
ScyFi wrecked it with a condensed version, then made it worse with a follow up.

Casting. What went wrong in the original?
All the casting was well done. Even Duncan Idaho had a aura around him in his limited appearance that anyone who knows the saga made my skin tingle.

I could watch this over and over. But again, Really Big Herbert fan.

This is why Hollywood wins.

And that's a contradiction.

Technically, Buffy was Joss Whedon taking his own concept and doing it closer to the way he originally intended it.

As for Battlestar, you'll still find some dyed-in-the-wool fans of the original who cannot abide the remake. They're kooks, but they're out there. :-)
