There was only an old locked thread from 10 years ago.

25 years in the making.  Finally was able to sit in a theater last night and watch Terry Gilliam's The Man Who Killed Don Quixote.

It's hard to judge the film apart from the context of the original doomed production and the documentary that resulted.  As a huge fan of Terry Gilliam's work and as someone who was full of anticipation for it all this time, I was going to enjoy myself pretty much no matter what.  It has the things I expect from a Gilliam film:  black humor, amazing visuals, interesting camera work, and characters without a firm grip on reality.  it was, however, just a bit of a let-down because it just doesn't all quite hang together.  It needed just a little more focus...it was so close that I wonder if it could be fixed with some minor editing.

I will probably need to watch it again.  Hopefully it will return to theaters some more.  It was a "Fathom Event" when I saw it last night.  The opening credits had about 20 different production companies/exec producer credits.  We're probably lucky it was released at all.

I should add:  Jonathan Pryce was *amazing* and deserves a lot of plaudits for his performance.

Hey Jozef

I had the same exciting experience here tonight in Australia :)

Couldn`t quite believe i was finally seeing Terry`s Quixote movie
up there on the big screen!

Watched it with a great mate and fellow Gilliam fan,
with whom I watched the "Lost in La Mancha" doco in 2002!
Time flies...

(btw you probably know there`s a follow-up doco  coming called
"He dreams of Giants" by the same filmmakers)

I agree - Jonathan Pryce was excellent as Quixote! Wow
Looking forward to seeing it again.

Cheers!
