Am I missing something here? Isn’t Dora like, you know, a CHILD? A YOUNG child?

So misconceived, on almost any & every level, that I'll call it now:

All but guaranteed to be one of the biggest box office bombs of the year.

Someone at Paramount took the CollegeHumor parody trailer with Ariel Winter too seriously.

If Paramount spent more than $60 mil on this than it should be a huge box office bomb.  That said?  Opening in August and with the name recognition it has, I'm going to bet against you.  It may not be a hit.  It may not spawn a sequel.  But I doubt it will be the biggest dud of the year.  THE KID WHO WOULD BE KING is so far vying for that title.  Made for $59 mil, not counting marketing, it has grossed just $29.7 mil worldwide.

Even a film like TOMB RAIDER (2018) which was made on a budget of $94 mil and was considered a horrible film as well as a domestic box office dud eventually made $274.6 mil worldwide.  It's just going to depend on how far the Dora name extends past the US, but that has nothing to do with the relative +/- of the content of the actual film.  ANY "Dora the Explorer" film, regardless of merit or skill, would face an uphill battle if she's not a universally accepted character.

All that said? I'll bet you DORA makes its money back.

My daughters watched Dora religiously. This movie looks like a travesty. Worst adaptation since...

OK, I'd never seen that before, but I must admit, "Vamanos! That means let's go!" made me laugh.

I worked at Paramount the height of Dora-dom.   I never understood it, found it annoying, but couldn't deny its leggy popularity.  Paramount has a long history of "reimagining" material when they can't come up with something new so this move is both not surprising and not promising.

Paramount has been trying to age up Dora for some time now.

Look for her to launch her first single with a performance at the MTV Music Awards in 2021...

Wait for it! Dora will become “too old” and they’ll introduce “legacy characters”!

"One of the biggest box office bombs," not the biggest bomb.

I still hold to it.  I just sense the general public looking at this and going, "Why???"
