Despised the banner (still do), but at least Marvel had the sense to move their "Marvel Comics Group" to the corner box (and I note no "Approved by the Comics Code Authority" stamp on 137, though it was back on 138.) So the ad took up about 2-3x the space of the old Marvel banner (another victim being "The Uncanny" qualifier, which went away). Definitely bad but it could've been even worse.

The CCA stamp actually fell off the cover of 137 en route to the printer. It’s absence inspired years of rumors that the Code had refused approval because the issue contained a suicide. Same thing happened to one of my issues of CAPTAIN AMERICA.

I did not. And, in fact, I thought they were dumb, distracting from the “drama” of the cover scene.

(Since the idea was that the logo was “healing” after being crushed the previous issue, I suppose I should be glad no one thought to put Band-Aids on it!)

Coulda been worse. At least there wasn't a Night Nurse cameo on the cover, with her tending to the logo.
