Imagine living in an authoritarian shithole like the UK where citizens are excluded from participating in mass shootings and their aftermath... /s

We had 2 suicides in one year in my small town High School. Several attempts after. It really can happen in clusters. One person carrying through with it gives others the courage to do so.

This is the long-term result of these killings. As a driving instructor, I always note how we've changed the national narrative on the acceptance of drunk driving. Mostly it happened through the efforts of injured victims and the loved ones of those who were killed. We CAN do the same with the gun culture. We need to keep talking about how many people are affected by gun violence. The people who die and the survivors.

My wife told me about an interview with a trauma specialist on NPR. The term is "Columbine Syndrome". More students committed suicide after the Columbine shootings than died on the day of the attack. This person was of the opinion that Parkland students were given PTSD care too soon. They should have been given more trauma care.

Terrible.

On clusters:

Take 100 quarters and throw them up in the air. They will come down roughly 50/50 heads and tails. However, within that spread there will be “clusters” that are all heads, or all tails. This is a statistical norm, and should not be taken as representing any kind of “trend”. Many other factors must be considered before that assessment can be made.
