Did you have anything to do with Captain America #314's cover, JB? GCD suggests yourself and the interior artist, Paul Neary, as possible pencillers.

I don't know why GCD is having a problem identifying this. There is clearly nothing of JB in this cover--
r
--but it does have plenty of obvious "Neary-isms" in it! The really funny thing about this is that the back shot of Cap at the bottom is EXACTLY the same pose as the corner box by Neary--just from the other side!

The gang at GCD were smoking crack or something when writing that entry. That is Paul Neary, not JB. I don't get how there was any confusion about it.

I like Neary's work but isn't that cover a big no-no? I'd imagine that having the back of the main character of the book as the selling point would be discouraged.

Isn’t that JB’s headshot in the lower left box?

I assume the lower box is why JB is credited as well.
By the way, Eric, I'd never noticed that about Cap's pose matching the top corner box. That's pretty cool!

Now that you mention it, I just assume that pretty much all headshots in the corner boxes were drawn by you in the 80's (a little later with the Avengers I assumed that was John Buscema, now I'm thinking Tom Palmer). I'm having doubts about how good of an eye I have.

GCD must have double tapped a button or something, JB did do the cover of the preceding issue.

I did a whole whack of headshots that were used for corner symbols, OHOTMU, and filling the UPC box on DSM covers. It seems, tho, that some think they should count as my actually having worked on a cover that features one or more. What a signing nightmare that would generate!!

I didn't think that, just thought that was why someone was crediting you on the cover.
If that were the case, you would be credited on nearly all of the Marvel covers of the 80s with those headshots.
