Every time you refresh the page, the program generates a new face. None of these faces are real people, but computer generated.

That article raises questions and concerns that never would have occurred to me. Wild.

If you refresh long enough, you get some faces that look somewhat slightly odd, but the majority of them you would not hesitate to believe they are actual people. The future is going to be very interesting.

Bjorn Heyn is real. It’s ME who doesn’t exist.

That is very cool, thanks.
I worked with Nvidia a few years ago, they're covering a wide area in regards to graphics technology and beyond, like self-driving cars, fully-rendered in-car dashboard/AI systems, etc.
I do understand that it can seem frightening, but at the same time, a lot of this is exaggerated to sensationalise and get traffic.
The faces being generated are interpolated from real images. The AI is not just coming up with random features, skin textures, hair etc. on its own. That may seem like a minor quibble, but it's not genuine creativity, it's more like highly advanced mimicry. That means it can also be more easily detected by other computers.
What will really frighten me is if we ever get truly autonomous AI, that can wander around like human beings and operate indefinitely, independently of any human assistance. Basically, if we get Gort, it's time to panic.

That's really cool. Between that, deepfakes, and writing AI so good they won't release the code for fear of abuse ( click), I wonder how long it will be before AI is strong enough to write and generate completely real-looking movies with actors that never worked together personalized for you specifically. Future Guy: "I'm bored. Show me a space-opera movie with Rita Hayworth and Leonardo DiCaprio. It should be really relevant considering the news today. Also, John Candy should be really funny in it. No Ewoks."

The first step out of the uncanny valley?Speaking of which, the other day I was googling CGI faces, just to get a sense of how far they’ve come. Up came images from a game called THE LAST OF US, which had some impressive animation, but the faces were not there yet. Then I noticed the © dates were all about four years old. So I looked a bit further and BOOM, suddenly I was into porn sites using the same characters. And they looked like they were the same models and skins. So, my question: is it somehow possible to “steal” characters? Download ‘em for nefarious purposes? I mean, where DOES copyright kick in?

Re: CGI faces.
I must admit, seeing the ANT-MAN movies with Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer looking exactly as they did in the 1980s, with zero flaws in the presentation, creeps the hell out of me. I don't know why, but it just does.

In a similar vein, how would you feel JB if "new" John Byrne artwork, even entire comics, were created in your style by robots (e.g., as per this article) in the future?
