I'm almost ashamed to admit that I have just discovered and read this terrific piece of work by Alan Davis.

What a great series the ongoing (1-8) and the following up mini series. It's  a fun, action-packed superhero book with vibrant colors, an intriguing story, and brilliant art. It really reflects the joy and craziness that I remember from the "good ol' days" of comics.

More than a high recommendation.

Technical note: unless the book was cancelled, those first eight issues would be a maxi-series, not ongoing.

JB, the original series lasted 12 issues and then was cancelled. Alan Davis just did the first eight. The less said about the following four, the better.

Greg, just making sure: are you aware of the X-Men/Clandestine 2 issue mini-series, also by Davis and the recent Marvel annuals he did that tied into the family?

The latter are collected here:https://www.amazon.com/Marvel-Tales-Alan-Davis/dp/0785140328

Thanks, Dave. I did not pursue the series after Alan Davis left. From what I've read online, a wise decision.

I didn't know those 2012 annuals tied into ClanDestine!  And I work in a comic store.  Shame on me.

I'm a huge fan of ClanDestine, especially when Davis is writing and drawing the characters. FYI, the horrible last 4 issues (which were not written and drawn by Davis) of the first ClanDestine series were easily and conviently written out of continuity and ignored by Alan Davis (one of the characters said the events in those issues were a dream) himself when he returned to the characters years later. Thus proving that the best way to deal with a bad/stupid story is to just retcon it and ignore, and if those anal retentive readers and creators say they want an explanation just say that those events were a dream. Nuff said.

Alan Davis did amazing work on both ClanDestine and Excalibur and someone at Marvel should have done whatever it took to keep him happy and on those books. It ranks right up there with not keeping Stern on Spider-Man/Avengers or JB on Avengers West Coast (or a ton of other stuff) as world class poor editorial decisions.

I have read and thoroughly enjoyed every issue of CLANDESTINE by
Alan Davis. I wish the characters were truly his so that he could take
them to IDW.

DC should never have caused him to leave Detective. Mike W. Barr and Alan Davis were a perfect combo beginning wither run on BATO.

Mike Barr would sometimes write Batman in ways that seemed off to me. (When fighting thugs, he deliberately gets them to shoot each other? Really?) But yes, the Alan Davis art was spectacular, that pretty much goes without saying. And I loved how he redefined who Leslie Thompson was. That was a great idea.
